Support
Most problems at a festival come down to one of four things, and they're all below. If none of them fix it, email us — a person reads every message.
We aim to reply within two working days. During a festival weekend, usually much faster.
Common problems
I can't see my friend on the radar
Check these in order — it's nearly always the first one:
- Are you both in the same session? Open Settings and compare the six-character session code on both phones. Joining a new code leaves the old session.
- Is one of you invisible? If someone turned location sharing off, they see everyone but nobody sees them. Their phone shows a permanent “You're invisible” banner — tap Turn on.
- Has their phone lost signal and gone out of Bluetooth range? Beacon keeps relaying positions phone-to-phone, but that needs another Beacon phone within a few hundred metres. Their last known position stays on screen with a “seen 4m ago” label.
- Is location permission set to Always? iOS Settings → Beacon → Location. On “While Using”, your position stops updating the moment the phone locks.
I didn't get an SOS alert
An SOS reaches your phone even when Beacon is completely closed — but only if notifications are allowed.
- Open Beacon. If there's a red “Alerts are off” banner at the top, tap Fix and switch notifications on.
- Check iOS Settings → Beacon → Notifications → Allow Notifications is on.
- If your phone is on Silent or in a Focus mode, the alert still appears on screen but the sound is suppressed by iOS.
- Both people need to be in the same session for an SOS to reach you.
Beacon is draining my battery
Open Settings → Battery / Accuracy and pick Battery saver. Positions update less often, which at a festival is usually indistinguishable in practice and meaningfully kinder to your phone.
Bluetooth relaying is what keeps the app working with no signal, so it stays on — but it uses far less power than the screen does.
How do I report a listing or a person?
- A food or bar pin that isn't real, is offensive, or is spam: press and hold it in the vendor list and choose Report this listing. It disappears from your map immediately.
- Someone in your group: press and hold their name in the group list, then choose Hide to just stop seeing them, or Report if they're being abusive. Either way they vanish from your radar and chat straight away.
- Everything you've hidden is listed under Settings → Safety, and you can undo any of it there.
Reports come to us for review. If something is urgent or involves someone's safety, email support@usebeacon.live directly.
How do I delete my data?
Leaving a session removes your position from it immediately. Beacon keeps no location history — there's nothing stored to look back through.
If you created an optional account to save people between festivals and want it deleted, email support@usebeacon.live from the address you signed up with and we'll remove it. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Do we all need the app?
Yes. Beacon shows you the people who are also running Beacon and have joined your session code — there's no way to locate someone who doesn't have it.
The realistic move is to get everyone on it before you arrive, while you still have signal and battery. Sharing the code takes about thirty seconds and needs no account.
In an emergency, call the emergency services. Beacon's SOS alerts the people in your group — it does not contact police, medics, or festival staff. At a UK festival, dial 999, or find the nearest welfare or medical tent.
